They were unbelievably excited to receive Him on Sunday, and rabidly wanted Him dead by late Thursday. It was so out of hand, that Peter was even scared to be associated with Him, after spending every day for years with Him.
Cheering and laying palms down on His path to "his blood be on our heads & on our children" in (essentially) 4 days.
Do you know what changed?
The Father lifted His protective grace from the people, and the demons swarmed. Sometimes, His permissive will is accomplished simply by removing his protection. That was during the Passion & Crucifixion of His Son.
We're in the midst of the passion & crucifixion of His Church.
Look around. He's removing His protection from demons again.
This could drag out for years, I guess. But never forget how much changed in 4 days.
